In my experience, a well-designed visual has the power to focus attention, illuminate patterns, and call to mind urgent new questions. I’ve had a chance to learn from some brilliant designers, including Edward Tufte, Jonathan Schwabish, colleagues at the Brookings Institution, and faculty at Middlebury College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
